My Experience with Japan Airlines Business Class

Japan Airlines (JAL) is a prominent carrier known for its exceptional service, modern fleet, and dedication to passenger comfort. For travelers seeking a premium experience, JAL’s Business Class offers a compelling option, characterized by spacious seating, exquisite dining, and a variety of amenities designed to enhance the journey. I had the privilege of flying JAL Business Class from London to Tokyo and the experience absolutely lived up to the hype. Let me take you along from start to finish. 

Overview of Japan Airlines

Founded in 1951, Japan Airlines has grown into one of the leading airlines in Asia, recognized for its operational safety, service excellence, and global reach. As a member of the Oneworld alliance, JAL connects passengers to a vast network of destinations across the globe. Its commitment to quality and service makes it a fantastic choice for both business and leisure travelers.

Seats

Upon boarding I was offered a welcome drink – I went with orange juice – and settled into my seat. Business Class seats can be transformed into fully flat beds, measuring almost 200 cm long. This feature allowed me to arrive at my destination feeling refreshed and ready to explore.  

Each seat in business class has a privacy screen and ample personal space, allowing travelers to work or relax without disturbances. The in-flight entertainment screen was huge and made me feel like I was at home relaxing on my couch. JAL offers a diverse selection of movies, TV shows, documentaries, and music, with options in multiple languages. High-quality headphones are provided to enhance the audio experience, allowing travelers to enjoy their chosen entertainment without distractions.

Not only is the seat itself cozy, but the people at Japan Airlines have assured travelers will feel comfortable throughout their flight. Cushy slippers, a cozy blanket, and a perfect comfy cardigan assured that I was effortlessly comfortable and at ease. Pillows are also provided for an exceptional restful experience. 

Amenity Kit

In case that wasn’t enough, JAL Airlines provides its guests with a fabulous amenities kit. The amenities bag itself is a keeper – JAL has partnered with experimental welfare company HERALBONY to design one of a kind toiletry bags for their business class (I got the green one!) The kit had everything I could have needed, including a toothbrush and tiny toothpaste, plush eye mask, earplugs (even business class passengers snore!), and a pocket tissue set. 

I also enjoyed an unusual amenity – a smartphone cradle with a charger compatible with my iPhone. It was surprisingly luxurious not having to dig out my charger! The seat is also fully equipped with a power outlet as well as a USB charger.

Dining Experience

The dining experience in business class was beyond delightful. Japan Airlines takes great pride in its culinary offerings, collaborating with renowned chefs to create a diverse and flavorful menu. The in-flight dining experience is a highlight of the business class journey. 

Guests can choose from a variety of dishes, including traditional Japanese meals such as sushi and seasonal tempura, alongside other international favorites. Seasonal menus reflect the best of Japan’s culinary traditions and global influences.

For those who drink, JAL offers an extensive selection of fine wines and premium sake, allowing passengers to enjoy exquisite pairings with their meals. Frequent flyers can take advantage of JAL’s “Dine on Demand” service, allowing them to pre-order meals tailored to their preferences. Meals are presented beautifully, often served on elegant tableware, elevating the dining experience to that of a fine restaurant. The flexibility to dine at one’s convenience adds to the comfort of the journey, accommodating varying schedules and preferences.

Service

The one element that really tied everything together was the exceptional service by the Japan Airlines flight crew. JAL doesn’t just pride itself on great service, it strives to provide the experience of omotenashi, or the hospitality that the Japanese so deeply value. The cabin crew treated each of us as if we were their honored guests. 

Japan Airlines Business Class offers a remarkable travel experience characterized by luxury, comfort, and exceptional service. With its high standard for cleanliness, gourmet food, extensive entertainment options, and premium amenities, JAL certainly earns its reputation for premium air travel. Whether traveling for business or leisure, passengers can expect an enjoyable journey that reflects Japan’s hospitality and attention to detail.
